Soul Mafia @ Mercury Lounge NYC 5.24 & SOB's NYC with Drake 5.26...

Soul Mafia…

So a wise man once told me that planning is priceless but plans are worthless…  I sure as hell hope he’s right. The plan to drop our album MK Ultra by this summer is looking like a long shot.  We whittled down to a lean 11 songs.  We pored over the artwork (thnx 2 Summer Cipriano for the graphic design and Emiliano Brooks for the photography).  We got the lead single “Live Forever” mixed and mastered (shout to Freak for the recommendation), went to the studio to check it out and then… our perfect plan got stomped on by a really big record.  It wasn’t a new song (although I will come clean… we did take the opportunity to sneak at least one new song on the album).  It was a song that suddenly sounded like it had taken more HGH than Rodriguez and Ramirez combined.  After hearing “Live Forever” mixed by Ariel Borujow (TI, Puff Daddy, Just Blaze, The Black Eyed Peas, etc.)and mastered by Kevin Blakler (Billy Joel, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wallace Roney etc.), we immediately looked at each other and said “we have to get the entire album done the same way”.  Our next thought was of course, how the hell are we going to afford that?

In the grand scheme of things this is great bad news.  We discovered a missing link in our artistic search for the Holy Grail.  I think when you get a chance to hear the final mixes you will understand.  So here is the new plan until it gets discarded… Starting in June, Soul Mafia will be releasing 1 song at a time from MK Ultra for purchase digitally on I-Tunes, Rhapsody, Amazon, etc.  When the song reaches 500 downloads, we will release the next song digitally.  When 5 songs are released digitally, we will physically release the full album.

Now for another question which many of you are wondering about… when the hell are we playing New York City again?  While we were planning on waiting for the physical album release, as I mentioned above, that would now mean us not playing a gig for another year… which is like telling a nymphomaniac to wait that long for sex so here it is:

May 24th: Soulfyne presents Soul Mafia with special guest Krussia and the legendary C-Rayz Walz at The Mercury Lounge 217 E. Houston St. and Essex doors 9 pm, tkts $10

May 26th: Hot 97 presents Soul Mafia with Folk & Stress and Drake at SOB’s 204 Varick St. and W. Houston 9:00 pm, tkts $20

Huge thanks to Chris at Emmis who has believed in us from the start. I want to send out a congratulations to Peter Mercurio, whose play "Two Spoons" is being snapped up by theaters nationally: much deserved success.  Also congratulations to Jeff and Lauren, Psalmz and Liesel, and Eric and Lisa for their recent/ semi-recent new babies!!

Thank you for your patience… we have been working hard on new music and live material and I hope to see you soon.
